Alex at work
Alex Lockhart is a full-time professional artist working in her little garden studio based in Northamptonshire. Alex has been passionate about drawing and painting since she was a little girl.
At school, she was encouraged by an inspirational art teacher Mrs Walker to pursue her love of portraiture and was introduced to oil painting from an early age. This passion for portraiture meant that Alex spent her childhood drawing and painting her family members from her sketchbook and easel in the family’s living room.
Over the years, Alex has had a career in care and teaching but art has remained constant in her life. In 2017, Alex decided to fulfil a lifelong dream and returned to education to study Painting and Drawing at the University of Northampton. Her fascination for capturing her everyday life and surroundings grew, enjoying the capacity that drawing and painting has to connect her with both people and places. Her avid sketchbook practice means that Alex draws from real life as much as possible and her sketchbooks become a great tool to connect with her audience.
Alex holds a strong belief that art is for everyone! By hosting workshops in her local community, she provides a means for both children and adults to come together, to engage with art, encouraging their self-expression whilst learning new skills.
Clients love having the opportunity to have their loved ones, pets and special places captured in pencil or paint by Alex. Alex takes great pleasure in working with customers to create something that is unique and personal to them.
Alex lives with her husband, four children and has two studio assistants; a cocker spaniel and a persian cat.
My Latest Project
I love making work that is personal to you which is why every commissioned piece of artwork will have different requirements to complete the work.
I work from good, clear photographs. The higher quality your photograph is, the more detail I can capture in the artwork. Where there are multiple subjects, I can use separate photos and combine them in one piece. Photos can be emailed to me or sent via the enquiry form through this website.
